At Wandsworth Foodbank, we provided more than 13,000 emergency food parcels to local people facing hardship between 1 January 2025 and 31 December 2025, with 63% of parcels provided for local households with children, according to new figures released today.
Wandsworth Foodbank has seen alarmingly high levels of food bank need in recent years, with a sharp 108% rise in emergency food parcels provided last year compared with pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
Dan Frith, Wandsworth Foodbank Manager, says:
Every day at Wandsworth Foodbank, we meet people facing hunger who are struggling to get by. We’re here to provide a warm welcome, support, advice and emergency food, but it shouldn’t have to be this way. Food banks are not a long-term solution.
We urge the government to put better support systems in place for people who are struggling with the costs of essentials and the challenging realities of everyday life – such as social security payments, insecure housing, job loss or the impact of health conditions and disability.
At Wandsworth Foodbank we’re deeply grateful for all the generous support we receive from our local community, however donation levels are not quite keeping pace with the levels of need we are seeing, which puts us under pressure as an organisation.
Food banks shouldn’t have to exist, but with millions of people across the UK still facing hunger and hardship, they are sadly still needed. If you are able, we would encourage you to play your part by donating food or funds to your local food bank – and ours if it’s your local one – to ensure everyone is supported and no-one faces hunger alone in London. Thank you.
Wandsworth Foodbank is a local charity that’s part of the Trussell community of food banks. Trussell has highlighted the deep scars that the pandemic and cost of living crisis have left on living standards, with food bank use across the UK still 45% higher than 2019. Families with children continue to be among the hardest hit, receiving 62% of parcels in 2025 despite these families making up just 42% of the UK population.
We believe everybody should have enough money in their pockets to put food on the table and we’re calling on the community to play their part to help end the need for emergency food across the UK.
Until then, people can help make sure Wandsworth Foodbank continues to provide warm, compassionate, practical support and advice in the year ahead by donating food or funds at https://wandsworth.foodbank.org.uk/give-help/
And a huge thank you to everyone who continues to give what they can to ensure local people and families can have what they need, in some of their hardest times. Thank you.
