Give a gift card to local people in hardship this Christmas

6th December 2021

Rising fuel costs, reduction in Universal Credit benefit payments and the ongoing impact of the pandemic mean this winter is going to be a bleak one for many families and individuals in Wandsworth. For people referred to us at Wandsworth Foodbank, this perfect storm has already left them without enough income to meet the cost of essentials.

That’s why this December we’d love to gve a supermarket gift card to each person referred to us which they can use to choose and buy fresh food, small gifts and anything else they need for Christmas. With your help, we’ll purchase and give £20 gift cards to single or couple households, and £50 to families with three or more people – alongside their emergency food parcel.

We know from previous years what a welcome extra this is. Guests to our food bank – who include people who are refugees, asylum seekers and families fleeing domestic abuse – are often are in tears at this surprise extra, and at this kindness of our community that touches their heart at a very difficult time in their lives.

You can give via our Justgiving Christmas campaign page, or do get in touch with us if you’d like to give another way. Your gift of any size today will help us buy and give supermarket gift cards, and will help lift the burden just a little from a local family or person this Christmas. Thank you.

(If, excitingly, you help us exceed our gift card campaign target, we’ll use anything extra to continue to provide emergency food, support and advice to local people referred to us in extreme hardship. Thank you.)
