Helping local people this Harvest

1st October 2020

During the pandemic, we’ve seen the need for our food bank more than double. During lockdown we supported more than 1200 local households – 7 in 10 of whom had never had to use the Foodbank before. We’ve created a very short film for schools about it that you may like to watch and share.

We’re really grateful to local schools, churches and community groups who are giving to the food bank to support local people in need this Harvest.

THREE WAYS TO GIVE

In these different times, we’d love to invite you to support us this Harvest in a different way if you can.

ONLINE FOOD DRIVE WITH BANKUET

We’ve partnered with a new social enterprise called Bankuet, who can take online cash donations of money and deliver us exactly the food we most need, when we need it.

This would mean that instead of inviting children and adults to bring tins and packets, they could bring a small cash gift that you collect and give in one donation via Bankuet to us. Or people can choose to donate online at Bankuet directly (and include Gift Aid if possible), using the campaign code your school or church would receive from Bankuet when you sign up.

To sign up you’d go to https://www.bankuet.co.uk/harvest-festival and fill in your school or church’s details. Please be sure to say the donation is for Wandsworth Foodbank, as Bankuet also supply to other food banks across the country.

You’ll receive a link and campaign code that you could send to people in your school or church community, inviting them to donate online to help local families in need. Bankuet would send regular emails updating you on your donations.

GIVE A CASH DONATION DIRECTLY TO US

If you’d rather give cash donations directly to Wandsworth Foodbank, you could invite and collect small donations which you can then donate online.

Giving through the online Bankuet food drive or through a cash gift to us would help us in two ways:

  •  You’d help ensure we have enough food, and the right food, to meet rising local need in winter
  • You’d enable us to concentrate on delivering food supplies to an increasing number of households in need – rather than also needing to collect physical food donations from schools across the borough – which would help us immensely in this very busy year.

FOOD COLLECTION

However if you’d like to donate food items, you can deliver them to us at our warehouse on Wandsworth Bridge Road SW6 2TZ, Monday or Tuesday between 10am-12noon. Please email us at [email protected] to let us know when you’d like to deliver, so we can make sure one of the team is there to say hello.

We’d particularly welcome the following items which we have less of at the moment.

  • Can openers (not food, but really important!)
  • Tinned vegetables
  • Tinned fruit
  • Tinned fish
  • Shower gel
  • Packet soup (not tins)
  • Noodles
  • Biscuits
  • Ketchup
  • Chocolate

And finally, we know that this year has been financially tough for many local families. We’d love you to make sure all children and parents in your school or church community know that if they’re not in a position to donate this year, that’s absolutely fine. Thank you.

As ever, we are so grateful to you for all your support. If you have any questions or you’d like more information, please contact the Foodbank office on 0207 326 9428 or by email at  [email protected]
